Budget-friendly 4-day itinerary in Bangkok
In this blog post, I’m gonna talk about the perfect budget-friendly 4-day itinerary in Bangkok.
There’s a lot to see and do in the beautiful city of Bangkok, Thailand. In Bangkok, you can enjoy all the modern amenities any big city has to offer, mixed with traditional Thai architecture and culture. From streets full of cars and motorbikes surrounded by super modern buildings. To small temples and markets snuck between buildings and the busyness of such a lively city.
But if you plan on visiting multiple cities in Thailand, and only have a few days in Bangkok, you want to do the best of the best. Based on conversations I had with locals, and my own experience, I recommend spending 3 to 4 days in Bangkok. This will give you enough time to do the best budget-friendly things in Bangkok and explore a bit outside the city.
NOTE: If possible, try booking a flight that arrives early in the morning in Bangkok. That way you still have lots of time on Day 1 to see and explore. But, of course, keep in mind that jet lag is a very real thing, especially coming from the US which is on the other side of the world. So if you need to rest on Day 1 or maybe take it slow, do what feels right for your body.
4-day itinerary in Bangkok
This 4-day itinerary is a suggestion based on the most popular (and my favorite) budget-friendly things to do in Bangkok. And most things can be done any day of the week unless specified otherwise.
Day 1 (Visit the most iconic temples in Bangkok)
🔹 Start the day at Wat Saket – for a great view of Bangkok
🔹 Then head to Wat Ratchanatdaram Worawihan – it’s right next to Wat Saket
🔹 Take a taxi to Wat Arun – one of the most popular and iconic temples in Bangkok
🔹 Once done, take a short boat ride across the Chao Phraya River and check out Wat Pho – one of the oldest and largest temples in Bangkok, where you can find the magnificent Reclining Buddha.
🔹 After exploring all the temples, have dinner and watch the sunset at one of the rooftop bars & restaurants overlooking Wat Arun (I recommend: Eagles Nest Bar, View ARUN, or The Deck Restaurant)
Day 2 (Go market hopping)
🔹 Book a half-day tour to Damnoen Saduak floating market and Maeklong railway market – book this tour at least a day ahead
🔹 Once back in Bangkok, walk around Chinatown and explore its day market
🔹 Then have dinner at Chinatown’s night food market – starts around 5 pm
Day 3 (Day trip outside Bangkok)
🔹 Take a day tour to the ancient city of Ayutthaya OR spend the day in Muang Boran Ancient City outdoor museum
🔹 Once back in Bangkok, get a Thai massage
🔹 Relax the rest of the evening
🔹 After dinner, hang out at Khao San Road
Day 4 (Chill day)
🔹 Explore the Grand Royal Palace and Wat Phra Kaew (The temple of the Emerald Buddha) – The temple is inside the Palace, and you can get a free English tour once inside around 10 am to learn more
🔹 Ride a tuk-tuk or taxi to ICONSIAM mall to cool down and check out the food market at the lower level as well as the views of the city on the top level
Enjoy a lazy afternoon. Maybe get another Thai massage!
Quick tips:
🧳 Pack lose and comfy clothes since Thailand has all-year-long tropical weather (meaning it’s always hot and humid)
👚 Bring long loose pants and shirts that cover your shoulders to enter the temples
💸 Take cash out at a local ATM (they don’t take credit/debit cards in many places)
🔌 Don’t forget to bring an international charger converter for your electronics
📲 Get a SIM card at the airport or at a 7-eleven to always have phone service and not depend on WiFi. Don’t forget to unlock your phone before you leave though.
