3 day itinerary in Mystic Falls (aka Covington, GA)

Alright, fellow Mystic Falls enthusiasts! Are you ready to trade your binge-watching sessions for a real-life “Vampire Diaries” adventure? Forget just dreaming about the Mystic Grill or strolling through the town square; we’re about to make it happen! This isn’t just any travel blog; it’s your ultimate, budget-friendly guide to a three-day Covington adventure, packed with iconic locations and enough supernatural vibes to make you feel like you’ve stepped right into the show.

Covington town square

From the moment you land in Atlanta, to those spine-tingling moments on the Vampire Stalkers tour (yes, the one that gets you into those private spots!), this itinerary is designed for the die-hard “TVD” fan who wants to experience it all without draining their bank account. We’ll cover everything from cozy, affordable Airbnbs to the best ways to get around (rent a car, trust me!), plus a little Atlanta exploration for good measure. Get ready to immerse yourself in the world of vampires, witches, and werewolves, and create memories that’ll last longer than a Salvatore sibling rivalry.

The best way to move around

I recommend renting a car for this trip. Not only will it be the best option to go from Atlanta to Covington, but it allows you the flexibility to move around and visit all of the locations you want to visit, especially the ones outside Covington, like Wickery Bridge and Conyers, GA.

My friends and I rented one for 3 days in April 2024 for $136 total.

Where to stay

I personally like to stay as close to the action as possible, and walk around the area if I can. Thankfully there are plenty of Airbnbs in Covington that are walking distance from the town square. My friends and I stayed at this cute 2 bedroom 2 bathroom Airbnb for $560 for 3 nights on the southwest side of Covington and it was perfect for the 3 of us. It was a short 5-10 minute walk from everything and we always felt safe.

3-day Mystic Falls Itinerary

Ready for the TVD experience of your life?? Here’s the perfect 3-day itinerary:

Day 1: ATL to Mystic Falls (aka Covington!)

AM: Land in ATL & Grab Your Wheels! Try to snag a late morning flight to make the most of the day. After all, you don’t want to waste a second of precious “TVD” time. Plus, Atlanta’s got some cool spots.

NOON: Atlanta Grub & Vibes! While in Atlanta, hit up the Krog District. Totally recommend it for a quick bite before heading to Covington! The food was great and the atmosphere was super chill.

PM: Mystic Falls, Here We Come! Time to head to Covington! The drive from Atlanta to Covington is about 45 minutes, perfect for blasting your favorite “TVD” soundtrack (or just A Drop in the Ocean on repeat!🥲) Most Airbnbs are ready around 4 PM, so you’ll hit it just right. Plus, you’ll still have plenty of time to check out the town square and grab dinner at one of the restaurants in the square, like the Social Goat Tavern or City Pharmacy (despiite the name, this is actually a restuarant 😆)

Day 2: Dive Headfirst into Mystic Falls Magic!

AM: Vampire Stalkers Tour Day! This tour is a MUST. It’s like stepping onto the set! You’ll hit basically all the iconic spots I mentioned in my previous blog with exclusive access to the Lockwood Mansion and Elena’s front porch. I recommend taking the 10 AM tour, but they have another one at 1 PM as well. Expect 1-2 hours of pure “TVD” bliss, for $55 per person.

NOON: Lunch at the Mystic Grill! You can’t come to Covington and not eat at the Mystic Grill. It’s a rite of passage!

PM: Road Trip Time! Let’s chase some more “TVD” magic! This is the perfect time to explore those nearby locations, like the legendary Wickery Bridge and Oxford College of Emory University (aka Whitmore College). Trust me, it’s worth the drive.

Day 3: Farewell, Mystic Falls… But Not Forever!

AM: Time To Check Out! Enjoy a chill morning and soak in those Mystic Falls vibes one last time! Grab a coffee and pastry at Bread and Butter, wander the square, and snap some final pics.

NOON: Witchy Vibes in Olde Town Conyers! Time for a mini-road trip to “New Orleans”! Olde Town Conyers is where they filmed a ton of “ The Originals” and a few “TVD” scenes. Grabbing a drink at the Celtic Tavern (a.k.a. Gillespie’s Pub in The Originals) is a must, and don’t forget to check out the cool, witchy shops!

PM: Back to Reality (aka the Airport). Sadly, it’s time to return the rental car and head to the airport. Aim for a late afternoon/evening flight so you can squeeze every last drop out of your “TVD” adventure.

So, there you have it – your perfectly crafted, budget-friendly “Vampire Diaries” pilgrimage to Covington and beyond! From the thrill of the Vampire Stalkers tour, unlocking those exclusive filming locations, to the charm of Olde Town Conyers, you’ve experienced the magic firsthand. This itinerary proves that you don’t need a Lockwood-sized budget to immerse yourself in the supernatural world of Mystic Falls.

With a little planning, some savvy travel tips, and a rental car to chase those out-of-town treasures, you can create a three-day adventure that’ll leave you feeling like you’ve lived a chapter in the Salvatore saga. Now, pack your bags, grab your fave “TVD” merch, and get ready to make some memories for your own diary.
